About the IDA CRPD Forum

In order to generate a wider coalition to promote the implementation of the CRPD, IDA has established the IDA CRPD Forum, a structure which is open to any international, regional or national organization which promotes the CRPD and accepts DPO leadership.

The IDA CRPD Forum steering committee, the body in charge of taking decisions, is currently comprised of fifteen member organizations. All eleven members of IDA are de facto members of the Forum, and the organizations Handicap International, Survivor Corps, Secretariat of African Decade of Persons with Disabilities, and the Asia Pacific Disability Forum are members of the IDA CRPD Forum steering committee. This composition clearly reflects the DPO leadership of the IDA CRPD Forum.

The goal of the IDA CRPD Forum is to uphold the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities as the universal standard for the human rights of all persons with disabilities that takes precedence over previous instruments through the coordinated involvement of its members. To learn more about the Convention and its role as the superseding instrument on disability rights, please read the related IDA CRPD Forum position paper by clicking here.

In practical terms, the IDA CRPD Forum works to develop a strong, unified voice from civil society led by DPOs in all matters concerning the CRPD.
