IDA advocates for the integration of the rights of persons with disabilities in the recommendations of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council.
Recent sessions of the Advisory Committee:
THIRD SESSION (3-7 August 2009)
IDA was among several NGOs which submitted a contribution to the discussion of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council during its Third Session.
The session furthered a continuing discussion of a declaration on human rights education and considered the issue of the rights of persons with disabilities.IDA’s submission raised key points, including the need for the rights of persons with disabilities to be part of human rights education and the need for persons with disabilities to participate in this area as trainers. In mid September 2009, IDA (CRPD Forum) contributed to the consultation process on the draft declaration on human rights education and training. Click here to see this contribution.
FOURTH SESSION(25-29 January 2010)
IDA submitted a contribution to the fourth session of the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council which included the proposal to add a specific reference to persons with disabilities in the draft declaration on human Rights education and training which was being prepared by the Advisory Committee of the Human Rights Council. Finally, the revised declaration includes a reference to persons with disabilities in its paragraph 7. Please click here to see this declaration, which will be presented at the next session of the Human Rights Council (1-26 March 2010).
The Advisory Committee also held a short discussion on the perspective of disabled persons in which the Experts highlighted the low rate of ratification of the CRPD among other issues. For further information on this discussion, please click here.
