Inter Agency Support Group to the Convention (IASG)
The Inter-Agency Support Group tothe CRPD (IASG) was established soon after the entry into force of the CRPD amd brings together UN specialized agencies, funds and programs.
IDA has attended the third and fourth meetings of the IASG.
At the fourth meeting of the IASG, held in Geneva in November 2009, the draft strategy and action plan of the IASG were discussed and agreed. Also, a first discussion on a guidance document on persons with disabilities for the UN country teams was discussed. It is foreseen that the next draft of these guidelines will be sent to civil society for consultation.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
The IDA (CRPD Forum) was invited by the UNHCR to co-organize a session on disability and displacement, which took place on 30 June 2009.
IDA forms part of a coalition of NGOs that is promoting an UNHCR Executive Committee conclusion on refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) with disabilities to be adopted in 2010.
WHO
IDA representatives will hold a meeting with the DAR (Disability and Rehabilitation) team of the WHO on January 6th. Main issue on the agenda is the upcoming World Report on Disability and Rehabilitation.
MDGs and persons with disabilities
IDA (CRPD Forum) participated in April 2009 at an expert meeting organized by the UN Department for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) on Mainstreaming disability in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), an important first step in a process that should increase the attention to persons with disabilities in the current stage of the MDG process, as well as position persons with disabilities for the forthcoming revision of the MDGs.
UNAIDS
In 2008, the IDA (CRPD Forum) was consulted on the policy document on HIV and disability which was jointly produced by the World Health Organization, UNAIDS and the OHCHR. Most of the IDA (CRPD Forum) suggestions were included in the final version of the document, which was launched in April 2009.
