In coordination with and support by the Fédération Algérienne des Personnes Handicapées, IDA held a workshop on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the review process by the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The workshop was held in French and gathered representatives of different constituencies and regions.

In March 2018, the CRPD Committee will adopt the List of Issues on the Initial Report of Algeria, initiating the process of review of the State’s compliance with the CRPD. In this context, the organisations of persons with disabilities of Algeria, and their allies, have decided to actively engage and participate in this process to develop their alternative report. This workshop provided the key elements for supporting and strengthening their work.

During the same time, IDA Member the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) was holding a regional training in Alger. Immediately following the workshop, an informal reception was held and gathered representatives of organisations of persons with disabilities of Algeria, who participated in the workshop, as well as deaf representatives from several countries of the region that participated in the WFD training. This space allowed for creating connections and exchange views on CRPD implementation in different contexts, as well as to stress the importance of joining efforts within the movement of persons with disabilities to advocate for the effective implementation of the rights of persons with disabilities.
