From 12 to 18 April 2018, Uganda is playing host to the first Module of the Bridge CRPD-SDGs training initiative. This is organised by the African Disability Forum (ADF) and the National Union of Disabled Persons Uganda (NUDIPU), with the support of the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the International Disability and Development Consortium (IDDC) and their members; and financed by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), the Big Lottery Fund and CBM.

Aims
The Bridge CRPD-SDGs aims to support organisations of persons with disabilities (DPOs) and disability rights advocates to develop an inclusive (all persons with disabilities) and comprehensive (all human rights) CRPD perspective on development, including the post-2015 agenda and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This will reinforce their advocacy for inclusion and realisation of rights of persons with disabilities.

Summaries by days

The selected 23 participants represent a wide range of organisations of persons with disabilities (DPOs) and other activists, including persons with intellectual disabilities, psychosocial disabilities, deaf-blindness, physical disabilities, albinism, leprosy, vitiligo, people with cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairments as well as multiple impairments.

The agenda includes detailed analysis and examination of the key concepts and structure of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and an introduction to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Inclusion and accessibility are intrinsic not only to the content, but the whole programme is delivered in a way that reflects the diversity of the group, inclusive of all.

Preparation of trainers and under-represented groups
On the 10th and 11th April, the facilitation team worked through the week, in order to ensure a smooth preparation, in particular, using tools of inclusive facilitation.

In addition, the 11th April was dedicated to the preparation of participants from underrepresented groups. For instance, participants with deafblindness, intellectual disabilities, deaf people, persons with psychosocial disabilities and hard of hearing, received support from the facilitation team, in particular, the ones that are resource persons for the marginalised groups.

The facilitation team is supported by Kathy Al Ju'beh (CBM) and Tchaurea Fleury (IDA-IDDC Bridge CRPD-SDGs Coordinator), with distant support from Berhanu Tefera (ADF).
