UN WOMEN

In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.

Currently its focus areas are: violence against women; peace and security; leadership and participation; economic empowerment; national planning and budgeting; Human Rights; and Millennium Development Goals.

IDA sent a letter to the new Head of UN WOMEN, Michelle Bachelet, in February of 2011 requesting an adequate mainstreaming of the rights of women and girls with disabilities in their work.
