Nellie Caleb (Co-Chair, Pacific Disability Forum) OHCHR Expert meeting on climate change and human rights

OHCHR is hosting an expert meeting on climate change and human rights from 6 - 7 October 2016 in Geneva. This two-day meeting brings together States, civil society organizations, and UN Agencies, including the special rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities, Ms. Catalina Devandas Aguilar; the special rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples, Ms. Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, as well as the Special Rapporteur and on the right to food Ms. Hilal Elver and experts to consider the implications of recent State commitments, including in the Paris Agreement to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, related to human rights and climate change. The meeting includes both expert panel discussions and interactive breakout groups.

The meeting will be informed by the following short discussion papers that address:

  • The rights of persons, groups and peoples disproportionately impacted by climate change;
  • Human rights, migration, and displacement related to the adverse impacts of climate change; and
  • Taking action on human rights and climate change.

Nellie Caleb, the Pacific Disablity Forum representatvie to IDA, presented on a panel discussion about the rights of persons, groups and peoples disproportionately impacted by climate change, and representing persons with disablities.
