The Bridge CRPD-SDGs Module A of its Training of Trainers 2019 is taking place in Geneva, from 8 to 15 March 2019, during the 21st session of the CRPD Committee. It will benefit 20 advocates with disabilities from French and Portuguese speaking from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Rwanda, and Tunisia. Participants including people from underrepresented groups including people with albinism, hard of hearing and deaf people.

It is organized by the International Disability Alliance, in collaboration with the African Disability Forum (ADF) and its sub-regional and national members, and the Latin American Network of non-Governmental Organizations of Persons with Disabilities and their Families (RIADIS), with financial support from DFID, MOFA, DFAT, DPOD, Light for the World, and DRAF; with support from the Centre d'Accueil de la Genève Internationale (CAGI).

Today, participants are having a face to face exchange with the Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Ms Catalina Devandas.

Detailed program:

The Bridge CRPD-SDGs ToT Module A 2019 will last 8 days and counts with a day for preparation of co-facilitators.

In particular, the curriculum covers sessions on:

  • In-depth understanding of the CRPD Principles   
  • Equality and non-discrimination
  • Equal recognition before the law
  • Liberty and security of the person
  • Access, accessibility and reasonable accommodation – Case studies
  • Introduction to the Agenda 2030 and SDGs
  • Linkages between the CRPD and SDGs
  • Community-based inclusive development
  • CRPD compliance
  • Inclusive facilitation

Participants will also follow the review of Niger and Rwanda by the CRPD Committee.
