The Thematic Group on Disaster Risk Reduction of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities met in Geneva, Switzerland, in advance of the Sendai Global Platform 2019 on Monday 13 May 2019.

This meeting is an opportunity for discussion and information-sharing at the global and regional levels regarding developments and initiatives related to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in disaster risk reduction.

DRR meeting, Geneva May 2019

Background:

The Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities: Thematic Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (TG-DRR) is an open coordination mechanism established in 2018 to support the engagement of persons with disabilities, their representative organizations and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to the monitoring of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (within the 2030 Agenda framework), under the umbrella of the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders mechanism.

The TG-DRR is a continuation of the Disability Stakeholder Group established in advance of the 2015 Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction. Since then, developments within the UN system have led to the formal establishment of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities under the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders banner, which formalizes civil society engagement in the monitoring of 2030 Agenda Frameworks.
