The International Disability Alliance was pleased to participate in the panel “A Climate in Crisis: The Fight for Justice in a Warming World” organized by the Unitarian Universalist United Nations Office.The event took place on Thursday, December 5th at the Salvation Army International Social Justice Commission in New York.

The panel was welcomed by the Deputy Permanent Representative of Fiji Mr. Agnes Ali-Harm. Among the speakers were the Board Chair of American Indian Community House Regional Mr. Rick Chavolla and the Focal Point for SDG 16 at United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth Ms. Daphne Frias. 

The International Disability Alliance was represented by our Inclusive Humanitarian Action and Disaster Risk Reduction Advisor Ms. Elham Youssefian. As a panelist, Ms. Elham Youssefian delivered her speech on climate change from the perspective of persons with disabilities. She highlighted why persons with disabilities are more at risk than other groups, what has been done so far and what NGOs and civil society can do for the inclusion of persons with disabilities in climate action. The panel was concluded with interactive discussions on climate action by 50 participants.
