The global disability rights movement has been guided by the adage “nothing about us without us”, which superficially may seem a very simple principle to implement. However, persons with disabilities, who comprise an estimated 15 percent of the world’s population, have been historically underrepresented and excluded from policy discussions that dramatically affect their lives.

IDA Press Release: International Day for the Eradication of Poverty 2012
New York, 17 October 2012 – IDA joins the celebration of this day and takes the opportunity to appeal to States, the UN human rights system and other stakeholders to address the discrimination and exclusion faced by persons with disabilities in international development efforts, and to ensure that all actions in this regard are consistent with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, 2011
IDA demands that more efforts need to be made to eradicate poverty and extreme poverty among persons with disabilities worldwide. The Social Protection Floor initiative can play a key role to achieve this objective.
