Opening of the 21st Session of the CRPD Committee (11 Mar 2019 – 5 Apr 2019)
The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities opened its 21st session on 11 March. During this session, the committee will review Cuba, the Niger, Norway, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Spain, Turkey and Vanuatu.

On September 24th, during the first week of the General Assembly in New York, the International Disability Alliance joined a high-level panel welcoming the UNFPA’s groundbreaking study “Young Persons with Disabilities: Global Study on Ending Gender-based Violence and Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights”.

Opening of the 20th Session of the CRPD Committee (27 Aug to 21 Sep 2018)
Geneva, 27 August 2018 – The UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities opens its 20th session at 10.00 hours (CET) on 27 August, during which it will review Algeria, Bulgaria, Malta, Philippines, Poland, South Africa and The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

Call on States Parties to Restore Gender Balance to the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
The GQUAL Campaign, the International Disability Alliance and the International Disability and Development Consortium call upon States Parties to promote gender balance as well as quality and independence amongst the experts within the elections for the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD Committee).

The CRPD Era: Ten Years In
Today, December 13th 2016, we are celebrating the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the landmark UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. 172 Member States have now ratified the convention, and momentum is continuing to grow for its full ratification and implementation.

How ten years of the CRPD have been a victory for disability rights
Ten years ago the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was adopted. It was the first internationally legally binding instrument to specifically address the rights of persons with disabilities at a global level. It was achieved with the active participation of the disability rights movement.
