IDA Meets with Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, 7 September 2012
New York, 7 September 2012 - The meeting was held today on the premises of UN Women between Ms. Lakshmi Puri, Deputy Executive Director, Assistant Secretary-General for Intergovernmental Support for Strategic Partnerships of UN Women, and a delegation of the International Disability Alliance led by its Chair Yannis Vardakastanis, to discuss the challenge of mainstreaming the rights of women and girls with disabilities within the work of UN Women.

OHCHR Study on Participation in Political and Public Life
The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has recently published its thematic study on participation in political and public life by persons with disabilities (CRPD, Article 29). The Human Rights Council in its resolution 16/15 (March 2011) requested to the OHCHR to prepare a study on this topic, that will be presented at the 19th session of the Council in March 2012.

Launch of The UN Partnership on The Rights of Persons with Disabilities
New York, 9 December 2011 - Yesterday, six UN Agencies, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Office of the High Commissioner (OHCHR), the Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the World Health Organisation (WHO), the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), jointly launched, in the presence of high-level representatives from States, together with representatives of organizations of persons with disabilities and non-governmental organizations, a Multi-Donor Trust Fund (MDTF) on disability rights to support the inclusion of the rights of persons with disabilities within the work of the United Nations at country level.
