Representation and empowerment of persons with disabilities
DAI commits to provide a unified voice of strength, advocacy and support for the rights, individual autonomy and improved quality of life for everyone living with dementia around the world. DAI commits to advocate for people with dementia, and build the capacity of people with dementia to advocate for themselves and others living with the disease globally.
Timeframe and/or implementation plan
DAI will promote connection and dialogue between people with dementia and the wider dementia community and civil society, and work to ensure that the voices of those with dementia are listened to and honoured.
Policy, legislation and its implementation
DAI commits to enforce the human rights of people with dementia rights through the CRPD and other Conventions are reflected in national and international dementia policy and practice. We ask Member States to include people with dementia in the CRPD and in the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. We are 50 million people without a voice, a number expected to rise to 152 million by 2050.
Timeframe and/or implementation plan
DAI will work with other organizations and with governments to create change in issues and policies that affect people with dementia now and in the future.
Stereotypes, attitudes and behavior
DAI commits to reduce the stigma, isolation and discrimination of dementia globally, by challenging the status quo of the current myths about the capacity of those with dementia, current diagnosis rates, pre and post diagnosistic care and by advocating for a social and disability model of support.
Timeframe and/or implementation plan
DAI will promote connection and dialogue between people with dementia and their communities to combat the isolation and exclusion of people with dementia.
