A development-focused mission is at the heart of what we do.

Our mission is to support the building of businesses throughout Africa and South Asia, to create jobs, and to make a lasting difference to people’s lives in some of the world’s poorest places.

We invest in Africa and South Asia because over 80 percent of the world’s poorest people live in these regions. We focus on investing in countries where the private sector is weak, jobs are scarce, and the investment climate is difficult, but particularly in sectors where growth leads to jobs. These sectors are financial services, infrastructure, health, manufacturing, food and agriculture, construction and real estate, and education.

Access to Decent Work
Part of the value proposition that CDC provides to its portfolio includes access to resources and capacity building to support enhanced environmental and social outcomes in Africa and South Asia. We will publish a Good Practice Briefing Note for our fund managers, investees and clients – and broader private sector investors - which will be available via CDCs Toolkit for Fund Managers. The intention will be to provide guidance on inclusive and practical actions that investors/ private sector companies can take to provide decent work for people with disabilities.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan: We will leverage work that is already underway for the Summit. Once this is published, CDC will expand coverage of tools for industry sectors within CDC portfolio. Timeframe will be Q1 2019 and the Briefing Note may be updated from time to time. We will also raise the issue of disability inclusion with other Development Finance Institutions via the regular meetings we have with these organisations.
