Canada commits to explore ways to better address the particular barriers faced by disabled persons organizations and persons with disabilities in contributing to and benefitting from sustainable development efforts. This includes encouraging enhanced collection of disability disaggregated data in development programmes, advocating for greater priority and attention to inclusive education within the Global Partnership for Education, and supporting UNWomen as it develops and implements its 2018-2021 Strategy for the Empowerment of Women and Girls with Disabilities through engagement at Headquarters and at the UNWomen Executive Board.

Representation and empowerment of persons with disabilities
Canada commits to reviewing its international assistance policy and programming processes to identify ways to improve equal opportunity, inclusive design and meaningful involvement of persons with disabilities in the design and delivery of Canada’s international assistance.

Adopt the voluntary OECD-DAC disability marker
Canada is committed to tracking and reporting on its international assistance using the new disability marker agreed by members of the OECD, starting in 2018 to capture 2019 flows. The information will also be available publicly in Canada's International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI) data files.

Canada commits to ensuring that the interests and priorities of girls with disabilities are taken into account in the development and delivery of Canada's $400-million G7 commitment on girls’ education, with a view to increasing access and reducing the barriers to quality education faced by girls with disabilities in crisis and conflict situations.

  • Canada commits to building institutional capacity to ensure greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in all of our international assistance and development efforts by delivering annual formal training for its staff on disability inclusion in development and humanitarian settings.
  • Canada commits to continuing its support to the Global Action on Disability’s (GLAD) efforts to enhance the inclusion of persons with disabilities in international development and humanitarian action, including by hosting the next Annual Meeting of this important forum and welcoming all GLAD members to Ottawa in 2019.
