The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) is the only global fund solely dedicated to education in developing countries. GPE is a multi-stakeholder partnership and funding platform that aims to strengthen education systems in developing countries in order to dramatically increase the number of children who are in school and learning.

GPE brings together developing countries, donors, international organizations, civil society, teacher organizations, the private sector and foundations.

GPE has adopted as its vision the new Global Goal for education, calling for inclusive, equitable quality education for all by 2030. GPE 2020, GPE’s strategic plan for the next five years, turns this vision in actionable goals and objectives.

  • Continue to provide results based financing to partner countries for the development of inclusive planning processes and implementation of inclusive education sector plans.
  • Work with our partners to strengthen inclusive education sector policy dialogue through GPE advocacy and social accountability grants.
  • Support improvements in education data on disability at country and global level, in partnership with UNESCO-UIS.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan

  • In line with our strategic plan, GPE 2020, this is an ongoing commitment.
  • Advocacy and social accountability grants will launch in 2019

Additional resources and implementation
GPE’s new funding mechanism, Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX) will support knowledge exchange, evidence mobilization, innovations, and cross-sectoral approaches for inclusive education. This will help developing countries solve inclusive education challenges through improved national education sector policy, planning and programming that deliver results for all children, including through cross sectoral approaches.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan: A call for proposals for KIX funding is due to be announced by the end of 2018

Endorse and support the Partnership for Inclusive Education

Through our Knowledge and Innovation Exchange we will support development of analysis, tools and guidelines that inform more inclusive education policy and planning. We welcome the potential of PIE alignment with GPE partner countries’ education sector plans.

Timeframe and/or implementation plan: This commitment is fully aligned with our strategic plan, GPE 2020, and represents an ongoing commitment to our shared vision to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
