2022 Regional Forums for Sustainable Development

The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) is the main United Nations platform on sustainable development and it has a central role in the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level.

The Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities (SGPwD) is the focal point for all UN Sustainable Development policies. ​The SGPwD engages with the Rio+20 outcome​, including the 2030 Agenda​ and its Sustainable Development Goals, the global SDG indicator framework, High-level Political Forum, Financing for Sustainable Development, ​and related global and regional policy processes. The SGPwD will be providing updates on all things HLPF in the following months. Dates for the regional forums have not yet been announced.​

Dates 5–12 July 2022 High-level segment and 13–15 & 18 July 2022 ministerial meeting.

Theme:“Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.” The Sustainable Development Goals in focus are: 4 quality education, 5 gender equality, 14 life below water, 15 life on land, and 17 partnerships for the goals.

There are 46 countries that have expressed interest in a Voluntary National Review:

“SDGs under review at the 2022 High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development” was open for contributions. Details can be found at this link. The Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities contributed to the consultations for SDG 4, SDG 5, and SDG 17.

Disability Data and Climate Change

The Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities will convene a side event to examine the importance of disability data in line with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda. The event will examine the importance of data for the rights of persons with disabilities in the interlinked Goals under review, with a particular focus on climate change.

SGPwD Webinar: Ways for DPOs to Engage in the 2022 High-Level Political Forum

On Wednesday 8 December, the SGPwD hosted a webinar on processes that tie into the HLPF and how organizations of persons with disabilities can engage.

Panelists included:

  • Sulayman Abdulmumuni Ujah- National Project Officer African Disability Forum and an OPD representative of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities at the 2019 HLPF
  • Oli Henman – Global Coordinator at Action for Sustainable Development, a global platform supporting civil society and citizen action for the delivery of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and coordinator of the Major groups and Other Stakeholders Task Group on VNR’s
