The first Conference of States Parties set a precedent for DPO participation through a panel discussion which included an IDA representative, as well as an intervention from the floor from another IDA representative, which further clarified the fact that civil society could intervene during the Conference of States Parties.
Prior to the first Conference, IDA prepared a list of criteria that it believed best reflected the qualifications demanded of Committee members, as well as a list of procedural criteria to ensure that the nomination and election process was made public and transparent.
IDA appealed to all governments to fully comply with these guidelines as a further example of their support for the CRPD. Following the principles outlined in these materials guaranteed that the spirit that characterized this ground-breaking process from its start would prevail in the election of Committee members.
