The International Disability Alliance (IDA) and the Regional Office for Central America in Panama of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) are hosting today and tomorrow a national workshop on the CRPD Review to support DPOs from Panama to prepare their list of issues to the CRPD Committee, as Panama will be reviewed this year by the Committee.

The workshop brings together leaders from different regions of Panama, and different constituencies. The workshop was opened by the UN Resident Coordinator, Mr Harold Robinson, the OHCHR Regional Representative, Mr Alberto Brunori, and IDA's Senior Adviser, Ms Tchaurea Fleury.

The workshop will be facilitated by José Viera (World Blind Union), Rosario Galarza (Latin-American Network of Persons with Disabilities and their Families) and Carla Covarrubias (OHCHR- Regional Office Panama), and will count with the presence and expert contribution of former CRPD Committee member Ms Silvia Quan.

During the workshop, DPOs will identify substantive areas of concern regarding the implementation of the CRPD, and elaborate a draft alternative report to be submitted to the CRPD Committee.

This training is part of the broader training support on UN monitoring mechanisms leb by IDA and its members.
