GENEVA

IDA is participating in the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW) 2018 week in Geneva.

The Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW), co-chaired by OCHA and the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), is an annual event held in Geneva in the first week of February. Since 2015, this event provides a unique forum for humanitarian networks and partnerships to meet and address key humanitarian issues. Networks and Partnerships hold their annual meetings during the week, and work together to find ways to solve common problems. HNPW convenes a large number of participants from diverse groups, including the UN, NGOs, Member States, the Private Sector, the military, academia and others.

Audience during the HNPW: Charter on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action:Impact and Expectations

IDA is particpating in two events:

  1. 'Charter on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action: Impact and Expectations'. The session is an opportunity for Networks, Partnerships and other attendees of the Humanitarian Week to exchange on the positive practices that have contributed to greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in various aspects of the humanitarian action. Participants will share examples of how the principles of the Charter impacts their work, and will have the opportunity to make commitments towards greater inclusion and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in humanitarian action, and to discuss ways forward. Download the flyer.
  2. 'Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in humanitarian action (guidelines): next steps'. The Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Task Team on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action was established in 2016 to develop IASC Guidelines on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Humanitarian Action (“the Guidelines”, more information here). More than 60 organizations, including humanitarian stakeholders, UN agencies, government agencies, organizations of persons with disabilities (“DPOs”) and non-governmental organizations are taking part in this work, which is co-chaired by the International Disability Alliance, Handicap International (recently renamed to "Humanity and Inclusion") and UNICEF. The Guidelines, to be finalized by end 2018, will assist humanitarian actors, governments and affected communities to coordinate, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate essential actions that foster the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian action, resulting in the full and effective participation and inclusion of persons with disabilities and changing practice across all sectors and in all phases of humanitarian action.
