Special Rapporteurs, Independent Experts and Working Group Members work on behalf of the United Nations within the scope of "Special Procedures" mechanisms, bearing a specific mandate from the United Nations Human Rights Council, either a country mandate or a thematic mandate. IDA works in collaboration with several, in particualr with the Special Rapporteur on the rights of persons with disabilities.

Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing

 IDA facilitated the visit of the Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Ms Leilani Farha, to DPOs during her visit to Serbia in May 2015. In her Press Statement visit to Serbia, including Kosovo, she recommended to Serbian central government, in coordination with local self- governments to accelerate the process of denstitutionalization, to develop alternative community-based support services and strengthen accessibility in practice, among others. She dedicated a full chapter in her statement to the right to housing of persons with disabilities. IDA is grateful to see that our advocacy work to mainstream the right to adequate housing of persons with disabilities has been embraced by the Special Rapporteur.

Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty

IDA encouraged and facilitated the visit of the Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty, Mr Philip Alston, to DPOs during his visit to Chile in March 2015. In his end-of-mission statement, he recommended that Chile specifically recognise the rights of groups such as women, children and persons with disabilities.
