Under the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities, a Thematic Group on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) will be established to support the engagement of persons with disabilities, their representative organizations and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to the monitoring of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (within the 2030 Agenda framework), under the umbrella of the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders mechanism.

This initiative is a continuation of the Disability Stakeholder Group established in advance of the 2015 Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, in which the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was adopted. Since then, developments within the UN system have led to the formal establishment of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities under the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders banner, which formalizes civil society engagement in the monitoring of 2030 Agenda Frameworks.

Gordon Rattray (CBM), previous focal point of the Disability Stakeholder Group, will remain the interim focal point while an open and transparent procedure is undertaken to establish the working mechanisms of the Thematic Group on DRR. Gordon will be supported by the IDA Secretariat, who are responsible for facilitating the overall Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities.

The future Thematic Group on DRR is an open coordination mechanism which will be led by one permanent and one alternate focal point.

If you would like to join the Thematic Group on DRR, including participating in the creation of a Terms of Reference for the group, developing the scope of work and supporting the election of focal points, please sign up via the Google Form.

Further details on election process and development of the ToR will follow.
