A Day for All - Ruth Warick

This year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities also falls...

Explore, Create, Share, Embrace #ADay4All

Every December 3, we come together to join persons with disabilities around the world in celebration of A Day for All. We take this opportunity to highlight how far we have come in recognizing persons with disabilities as just another manifestation of diversity in our communities, and to stand in support of a society that embraces that diversity, in all its forms and shapes.

There is plenty to celebrate and be proud of: since the first International December 3rd celebration in 1992, persons with disabilities have gained recognition of their rights by States across the globe, and with them, of their rightful place in society. But there is still much work ahead of us to turn those legal rights into a true revolution, in which diversity is fully embraced and lived. Therein lies one of our most precious social assets as a global community, one which can make our institutions more inclusive and democratic, and our societies more prosperous.

So let’s come together this day, to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of persons with disabilities to our families, workplaces, schools and communities. This day let’s also reaffirm our commitment to embrace diversity in our lives. This is truly a DAY FOR ALL, to celebrate and welcome persons with disabilities as part of our wonderful human diversity.
