An annual meeting of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the UN took place from 8 - 24 July 2015 with the theme “Managing the transition from the Millennium Development Goals to the sustainable development goals: what it will take”. IDA spoke at the official meeting of ECOSOC at the High-level Segment and offered the views on the main theme with regards to persons with disabilities. IDA not only emphasized the fundamental change from MDGs to SDGs, but also provided concrete examples of what this will mean for children and women with disabilities.

A number of Commissions under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) address issues relevant to the rights of persons with disabilities. IDA undertook the following advocacy activities in three Commissions—the Commission for Social Development, the Commission on the Status of Women and the UN Statistical Commission.
