Under the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities, a Thematic Group on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Action (TG-DRRCA) has been established to support the engagement of persons with disabilities, their representative organizations and other relevant stakeholders to contribute to the monitoring of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (within the 2030 Agenda framework, and also ensure that the global and regional climate action is inclusive of and allows equal participation of persons with disabilities and their representative organizations.
The Terms of Reference of the group was developed based on an open and participatory process by members, and officially approved on July 24 2020.
This initiative is a continuation of the Disability Stakeholder Group established in advance of the 2015 Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, in which the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction was adopted. Since then, developments within the UN system have led to the formal establishment of the Stakeholder Group of Persons with Disabilities under the Major Groups and Other Stakeholders banner, which formalizes civil society engagement in the monitoring of 2030 Agenda Frameworks.
The TG-DRRCA is an open coordination mechanism led by a Steering Committee. Members of the Steering Committee include the global and regional focal points, representative of the Stakeholders Group, and the representative of the International Disability Alliance as the organizing partner. The TG-DRRCA is currently in the process of electing the next permanent and alternate focal points.
