IDA is supporting the participation of delegates from Moldova to attend the 76th session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and the Committee on Economical, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR), which are taking place in Geneva in September.

The delegates Vitalie Mester and Ion Cibotarica are part of an organisation which is a centre for legal assistance of persons with disabilities, and represent a small coalition of persons with disabilities, known as “Without barriers”.

In an interview with IDA, Vitalie noted: “We started with a coalition two or three years ago because we already had a coalition of service providers, but there was the problem that they usually did not include the rights of persons with disabilities in the discussion. That is the reason why we created this new space and the name ‘Without barriers’ has two meanings: the first one is related to the fact that persons with disabilities should not face barriers in access to services and rights, the second meaning is that the coalition will go straight for its aims”.

The representatives from Moldova have used the mission to Geneva to share information on the situation of persons with disabilities.

The 76th Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child is taking place in Geneva from 11 to 29 September 2017. During their participation in the CRC, the Moldavian representatives attended a meeting with one of the CRC committee Members, where they discussed some issues related to the rights of children with disabilities. They were able to propose some questions to the CRC Committee members, and they, in turn, took up the proposals and were able to
transmit those concerns during the interactive dialogue.

The 62nd session of the Committee on Economical, Social and Cultural Rights is taking place from 18 September to 6 October 2017. During a public briefing for NGOs, Moldova was represented by came three persons: one representative of the Roma organisation, one representative for National Minorities and one representative from the NGO working on women issues. During the briefing,  Vitalij was appointed head of the delegation and took the opportunity to reference the situation of persons with disabilities in Moldova and also  information on social protection of persons with disabilities.
