The Partners for Review (P4R) Network 3rd Meeting took place in Kampala, Uganda from 24-25 October 2017. The event was organized by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and it was hosted by Uganda’s Office of the Prime Minister. 102 participants included government representatives, stakeholders from civil society, the private sector and academia involved in national review and monitoring processes in their countries. Anderson Gitonga Kiraithe, representative of IDA Member African Disability Forum and Executive Director of the United Disabled Persons of Kenya, Nairobi attended the event with the support of IDA.
The objective of the meeting was to address cross-cutting challenges of national implementation and the imperative of strengthening stakeholders’ participation and engagement.
Sessions of the 2-day meeting covered topics such as: SDG review in year 2 of the 2030 Agenda - experiences and lessons learned; Voluntary National Reviews – national and global-level processes; Breaking down the data challenge for SDG reporting; Coordination frameworks and institutionalized mechanisms for implementing the 2030 Agenda;
During the meeting, AndersonGitonga Kiraithe made a presentation on the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Among others, Anderson highlighted the importance to use the UN CRPD as a guideline when applying the SDGs and to continuously involve organizations of persons with disabilities. He also drew attention to the need to disaggregate data based on disability. Following his presentation, participants agreed to upload the UN CRPD to the information section of the P4R’s website.
BACKGROUND:
Partners for Review is a transnational multi-stakeholder network for government representatives and stakeholders from civil society, the private sector and academia involved in the national review and monitoring process towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The network facilitates dialogue and peer learning on challenges, provide space to explore best practices and lessons learnt, mobilises knowledge, and shares expertise on new and emerging issues related to national monitoring and review.
Members meet prior to reporting at the HLPF to facilitate the preparation of appealing and engaging presentations and to offer assistance on integrating recommendations into national level processes. The initiative gathers constructive, effective and practicable solutions for meeting the joint commitment to review progress towards achieving the 2030 Agenda at national level.
