In 2015, CSocD addressed the rights of persons with disabilities in a resolution titled “Promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and mainstreaming disability in the post-2015 development agenda” during the 53rd Session of the Commission, held in New York from 4–13 February 2015. The resolution called for the Commission to hold a multi-stakeholder panel during the 54th Session on “Implementation of the post-2015 development agenda in light of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”. The multi-stakeholder panel and theme was proposed by IDA during bilateral meetings with the Member State responsible for drafting the resolution. This advocacy work ensured two key elements of the panel: first, that DPOs will be consulted in the planning and invited to participate; and second, that the panel would address development from a CRPD perspective. IDA also provided language proposals to the drafter and other Member States to ensure the final text was in line with language utilised by the CRPD.
