The 2016 HLPF is the first since the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in September 2015. The eight days of discussions at the United Nations in New York will include the voluntary reviews of 22 Member States' progress towards implementing the SDGs.
The HLPF will also include a range of side events, a Partnership Exchange event, and SDGs Learning, Training and Practice sessions. The HLPF is the most inclusive and participatory forum at the United Nations, bringing all States Members of the United Nations and States members of specialized agencies together. All people can participate in HLPF through the major groups and other stakeholders format.
During the HLPF, 22 leading disability rights advocates and representatives from every region of the world will be attending, 12 of which are persons with disabilities. Two persons with disabilities have been invited by the President of ECOSOC to deliver remarks at the official opening and roundtable of the HLPF.
Persons with disabilities will be key participants in four side events during the first week of the HLPF. These will cover discussions on inclusive education, data desegregation by disability, tackling inequalities, and ending violence against children.
The official sessions of the HLPF will be broadcast on the UN's WebTV and closed captioning will be provided.
