The 2020 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow up (FfD Forum) took place at the UN in New York (online) from 20 to 23 April 2020, convened by the President of ECOSOC. The FfD Forum has been mandated to assess progress, identify obstacles and challenges to the implementation of financing for development outcomes and provide policy recommendations.

On 23 April, the Secretary-General spoke at the Financing for Development Forum on COVID-19 indicating that this is not only a health crisis, but a human crisis, a jobs’ crisis, a humanitarian crisis and a development crisis and that all support measures must target the poor and most vulnerable.

The final draft of the outcome document can be found here that contains two references on persons with disabilities:

  • We recognize the urgent need to support those who are vulnerable or in vulnerable situations, including women and girls, youth, persons with disabilities, older persons, indigenous peoples, refugees, displaced persons, migrants, and other marginalized groups, protect human rights for all and ensure that no country or person is left behind (para 5).
  • We are determined to improve access to finance and to working capital liquidity for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as promote financial inclusion for the poor, women, young entrepreneurs and persons with disabilities, who are most vulnerable to the adverse effects of COVID-19 (para 16).
