We are pleased to present the new Co-chair of the Indigenous People with Disabilities Global Network!
Mr Manase Saitoti Ntutu is a leader representing indigenous persons with disabilities, with experience in advocacy from the grassroots of Kenya to the international arena. He is currently a member of the National Council of Disability in Kenya and also holds positions as Chairman of Narok South Disability Network and Chairman of Ololulunga Physically handicapped self-help group. He is also a wheat farmer, a livestock keeper, a pastor as well as an alumnus of the Bridge CRPD-SDGs East-Western African cycle (2016-2017).
He has participated in a number of forums, which include the 14th session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) to represent indigenous people with disabilities, as well as the 10th session of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP) in 2017. He also attended the Regional Consultative Forums on the Baseline Survey on National Values and Principles of Governance in the South and Central Region as a coordinator of the Kenyan National Government.
In August 2018, Mr Ntutu, through the Narok South Disability Network, and supported by the IPWDGN and IDA, implemented the Technical Workshop on Ensuring the Rights of Indigenous Persons with Disabilities, in Kenya.
His mandate begins in April 2021 and will be in effect till July 2024.
International Disability Alliance (IDA) wishes him a very successful journey and all the best in this new role.
We would also like to thank Mr Setareki Macanawai the IPWDGN former Co-chair for his years and passion in this position and his generous leadership to the indigenous peoples with disabilities movement. Under his leadership, the network gained recognition in several global forums for both persons with disabilities and indigenous peoples and we look forward to his continuing engagement as treasurer of the Network.
From now on, the IPWDGN will be constituted as follows:
